Description | This cast iron bust of General John J. Pershing also serves as a coin bank. General Pershing commanded the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) during World War I. This Missouri native first gained notoriety for leading American troops in pursuit of the Mexican bandit Pancho Villa in 1916. A year later, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him to commander of the A.E.F. Pershing’s image appeared on a wide variety of patriotic items like this bank during and immediately after war. |
