Open Mess Kit
Details
Title | Open Mess Kit |
Description | United States Army Model 1910 meat can. This mess kit was a standard issue item for American soldiers during World War I. Designed to be multi-functional, soldiers used the cover as a plate, while the base served as a frying pan. Each soldier carried a mess kit in his field pack. Complaints from soldiers stating the plate was too small, led the army to make the plate one-half inch deeper in the new Model 1918 version. |
