Model 1904 Service Shoes
Details
Title | Model 1904 Service Shoes |
Description | United States Model 1904 Service Shoes. They were the standard issue footwear for the United States army in 1917 when America entered the war. Experience quickly revealed they were too light for use in muddy trenches. The Americans relied on British and French boots until the army developed the Model 1917 Trench Boot. Also, known as the “Pershing Boot,” it featured a hob nailed sole and metallic heel plates with rough leather on the outside. An unissued example, these service shoes were manufactured in St. Louis. |
