M 1917 Rifle with Bayonette
Details
Title | M 1917 Rifle with Bayonette |
Description | United States Model 1917 Enfield rifle. Often referred to as the “American Enfield,” the Model 1917 was patterned on the British P14. After the United States entered the war, American manufacturers struggled to supply the army’s standard issue rifle, the Model 1903. With the P14 already in production, manufacturers patterned the weapon on the British model, but used the American .30-06 caliber. It was operated with a five round stripper clip and had an effective range of 600 yards. Over half of the American soldiers who served in France during World War I were armed with this rifle. |
