Leg Wrap Puttees
Details
Title | Leg Wrap Puttees |
Description | These rolled puttees would have been used by light infantry soldiers. They were used to keep the legs of soldiers warm and dry, but by many accounts they did a poor job of both. They also served as a line of defense against injuries caused by barbed wire in the trenches and in no-man’s land. Examples like these were more regularly distributed to non-commissioned officers and privates, where their leather counterparts were generally reserved for higher ranking members of the armed forces. |
