Description | Mrs. Mary Pittman’s Gold Star Pilgrimage of Mothers & Widows pin. Her son, Private John Richards, 139th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, died of wounds on September 28, 1918. In 1929, Congress authorized visits to Europe for mothers and widows who had lost a son or husband during World War I. The trips allowed the women to visit the graves of their loved ones. |
