German Wound Badge
Details
Title | German Wound Badge |
Description | German Wound Badge given to soldiers who had been injured in combat. It features images of a helmet and two crossed swords surrounded by a wreath. The badge was authorized on March 3, 1918 and was worn over the left breast. It belonged to John Frank Hardesty who likely took it as a souvenir during the war. In 1917, Hardesty enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and requested a transfer to the Seaforth Highlanders in the British Army so he could fight. He was captured in March 1918 and held as a prisoner of war until the armistice in November. |
