Coal Oil Burner of Albert Barth
Details
Title | Coal Oil Burner of Albert Barth |
Description | Albert Barth of St. Louis carried this coal oil burner with him during his time in the Army. Items like this were used to provide a light source to soldiers while they read orders, wrote letters, and reviewed mail from back home. The small flame produced by these devices allowed for soldiers to illuminate their tents or positions in the trenches without necessarily giving their positions away to enemy combatants and snipers. Barth was born in St. Louis, Missouri and enlisted in the Army on July 5, 1918 in Kirksville, Missouri. |
