Title Belt With Military Buttons
Description World War I belt belonging to Joseph Garneau Weld of St. Louis. His belt includes 33 buttons from various nations involved in the world conflict. This belt is an example of trench art, or items made from used military ordnance and equipage. Weld joined the American Field Service as a volunteer ambulance corps where he served as an ambulance driver with the French army. When America entered the war, Weld enlisted in the United States Ambulance Service. Weld earned the Croix de Guerre and French Field Service Medal.
