Barbed Wire
Details
Title | Barbed Wire |
Description | Originally designed to keep livestock within the perimeters of a farm or designated area, barbed wire found its way into no man’s land between the trench lines of WWI. Barbed wire proved to be a formidable enemy on the battlefield as it snagged the uniforms of passing soldiers and effectively stopped or significantly slowed their movements. Soldiers who became caught in the wire could soon find themselves the victims of gas, artillery, and machine gun attacks, or stabbed with the bayonets of advancing enemy troops. |
