Missouri Over There

Maries County Doughboy Memorial

Description

The Maries County Doughboy statue depicts an American service member at relaxed attention, holding his rifle by the barrel and staring out into space. This statue, like others in Missouri, breaks from the standard motif of Doughboy statues depicted in E.M Viquesney’s “Spirit of the American Doughboy” making this a unique memorial to WWI Veterans in its appearance. It was dedicated by the citizens of Maries County in honor of all who served in WWI. The names of those who died overseas are listed and also represented with eight stars.
