Miner, Wayne Collection

Formed in 1919 in Kansas City, American Legion Post 149 was named in honor of Private Wayne Miner.  Miner, an African-American soldier, was killed in action on November 11, 1918, while serving in France with the 92nd Division.  Miner died just three hours before the armistice took effect and was one of the last Americans killed in combat during World War I.  Post 149 has traditionally been an African-American post.  This collection includes photographs from the early history of the Wayne Miner American Legion Post 149.
