Fitzsimons, William T. Collection

This collection consists of a photograph of 1st Lieutenant William Fitzsimons. He served with the Medical Officer's Reserve Corps at U.S. Army Base Hospital no. 3 operating with British Hospital no. 10. He was killed in action on September 4, 1917, making him the first American officer to be killed during World War I. Fitzsimons was inducted on April 21, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri and later traveled overseas on July 23, 1917 where he served until his death.
