Birkhead, Laura A. Papers

During World War I, Miss Laura Birkhead was involved with refugee work, especially providing clothing for children. These five short letters provide information about work for women in France during the war. Birkhead discusses the devastation of war, evacuation and camps for refugees, expenses, hospitals, food rationing, celebrating the armistice, and post-war conditions in France. She also describes the volunteer groups, sponsored agencies, and military units assisting soldiers and civilians.
