Description Bronze Missouri National Guard Mexican Border Service Medal. The Missouri Seal and the words “Mexican Border Service 1916” are on the front. The reverse features the Seal of Mexico and the inscription “National Guard Missouri/For Service/The State of Missouri. The medal was authorized for soldiers who guarded the American border in Texas after an attack on Columbus, New Mexico by the Mexican bandit Pancho Villa. This medal was likely presented to Captain Frank M. Rumbold who commanded Battery A during the border campaign. During World War I he commanded the 128th Field Artillery, 35th Division and was slightly wounded during the Battle of the Argonne Forest on September 30, 1918.
