    Description American Red Cross Nurses’ Aide uniform worn by Anne Farrar. Farrar volunteered as a nurses’ aide in St. Louis where she helped Base Hospital 21 mobilize for the war. The dark gray wool uniform features a suit jacket, skirt and leather belt. The Red Cross provided a variety of medical and recreational services to military personnel. As the largest civilian support organization in America during the war, the Red Cross was heavily staffed by volunteers from the United States and abroad.
