Details

Title German Belt Buckle, Frank Hardesty
Description Brass belt buckle featuring the German Crown and the inscription “Gott Mit Uns,” meaning God with Us. It belonged to John Frank Hardesty who took the belt as a souvenir during the war. In 1917, Hardesty enlisted in the United States Medical Corps and requested a transfer to the Seaforth Highlanders in the British Army so he could fight. German soldiers captured Hardesty in March 1918 and held him as a prisoner of war until the armistice in November 1918.
